Halloween-Inspired Calligraphy Ideas

If you have stepped outside inside of any stores lately, you might have noticed they seemed to have skipped fall altogether and jumped over to everything Halloween. I have to confess I’m not mad about that one bit!

So you’re a calligraphy obsessed human, you know that you will be doing some work for Halloween. Because, why not.

However, for the newbies (or is it noobies?) out there who are looking for ideas and inspiration, fear not. Here’s a list of things you can use your new acquired skill. Beginners welcome, your loved ones will think you’re a professional.

Spooky Invitations

Design Halloween party invitations with spooky-themed calligraphy. Use eerie fonts and phrases like “Join Us for a Haunting Night” or “You’re Invited to a Witching Hour Soiree.” Ok, so making the whoooooole invitation might take a while, so I suggest you design or use one of Canva’s templates, edit to your own party info and boom, done. You can save the calligraphy part for the envelopes. Use black envelopes or any dark color and use either gold for luxury, or green for spooky. Everyone will RSVP yes to this. You nca use black envelopes like THESE.

Place Cards:

If you’re hosting a Halloween dinner party, create place cards with calligraphy to assign seats. Use black or dark-colored cardstock and write guests’ names in either neon green, purple or orange. If you feel inclined, write food labels too if your dinner is buffet style!! If there’s no assigned seat, make the cards anyway and put them together on a side table where your guests can grab them and choose their own seats. Great photo op right there (hello portfolio, if you’re trying to build one). If you want to REALLY impress your guests, use props as place cards. I use mini witch cauldrons or hats like THESE.

Creepy Cocktail Menu:

Craft a Halloween cocktail menu with calligraphy. Write the names of your signature drinks in calligraphy and add spooky descriptions like “Blood Moon Elixir” or “Witch’s Brew.” You might skip the dip pen on this one and use a small chalkboard instead, and there are plenty bright colored markers to choose from, like THESE ones.

Chalkboard Signs:

Ok, not calligraphy, more like lettering, but still counts. Use Chalk Markers to write a fun and creepy sign for your party or even to just hang by your front door for trick-or-treaters! You can find all sizes of chalkboards at your local craft stores or online like THIS.

Pumpkin Decorating

Instead of carving your pumpkins, use calligraphy to decorate them. Write spooky messages or draw intricate designs with black paint or a permanent marker. You can buy different colored artificial pumpkins and make it a Halloween/thanksgiving affair. If artificial pumpkins are more of your jam, you can buy some HERE.

Spellbook Labels

Create labels for jars and bottles in your Halloween decorations. Write labels like “Eye of Newt,” “Witch’s Brew,” or “Dragon Scales” in a mystical calligraphy style. You can also make labels for treat bowls during Halloween night for the little ones! OR you can write on your little ones treat basket as they walk through the neighborhood for treats. Trick-or-Treat Signs

Design signs for your candy station, such as “Trick-or-Treat” or “Take One, if You Dare.” Use calligraphy to make them stand out. You can the traditional white markers, or make it stand out with all the Halloween colors. Add some vampire teeth and witch hats to the sign to give it a real Halloween feel!

Incorporating calligraphy into your Halloween decorations and activities can transform your celebration into an elegant and memorable event. Whether you’re hosting a sophisticated masquerade ball or a fun-filled family gathering, the art of calligraphy can add a touch of magic and mystery to the Halloween season.
