Need last minute ideas for Valentine’s day for your little one to take to their friends? Here’s a list of goodies I found on Amazon that you can get super quick. 

I have always liked taking on DIY projects. Within reason. I can make cute little crafts for kids (or myself) but can’t bake a cake to save my life. I mean, I can bake, but decorating is a whole other issue. I guess it would fall into the Pinterest fail category you’d see on Buzzfeed articles late at night. 

When I started my career as a calligrapher here in San Diego, I started taking on more projects, more hobbies, and that only increased when I had my daughter. Bring on the crafts. My husband said we have no more extra room, and one more box might cause someone to move out. 

Cue to Valentine’s Day shenanigans. Whether you want to make your goodie bags from scratch (like me) or want the convenience of everything in one box you just put in the bag, this list is sure to impress all the kiddos and make Valentine’s Day a lot more memorable.

For the “I want to DIY” crowd:

Not really DIY if I’m being literal. You’re not making sugar cookies and then wrapping them with a cute little ribbon. You just buy all the items separately and add them to the bags. But just because you are buying everything and adding all of the items in a cute bag doesn’t mean it doesn’t take work. This list is meant to make it easier and avoid the thought of dread when it’s time to brin goodies to child’s school friends. No more “what should put in the bag”. Just click on the links and add them to your cart. Buy 4 things, or buy everything. You got options.

Make sure you add an equal number of each item so all kids receive the same thing.

1. Friendship Bracelets:

These ones are already pre-made, so no need to scramble around all the beads in your house that you will have to clean up later. They come with super cute friendship messages attached to them, and I’m confident everyone will love it!

2. Valentine’s Day stickers:

A staple. Just like peanut butter and jelly in their lunch box. Unless you go to a school that’s peanut free, then we need a plan B. Stickers are something every-single-kid I have met loves. My daughter has an unlimited supply which should last until she’s 35. Take this up a notch and get the sticker craft. Check out the link below to see what I mean.

3. Mini Play-Doh packs: 

You can get an assortment of colors and use them all, or do the pink and red theme. I’d suggest just adding all the colors since some kiddos like blue and purple. Regardless, play-doh is a lot of fun no matter the age!

4. Crayons:

Because you need a new set to all of the broken ones peeling off you already have. True story: my favorite smell is of crayons. It takes me back to pre-school so I don’t care how much i already have, I’m always adding new crayons to my daughter’s craft box. You can find a lot of cite crayon set on Amazon, so I’ll stick with the regular one, BUT it comes with a holder!

5. Valentine’s Day temporary tattoos:

My daughter likes tattoos all over her arms. She would definitely go for a full coverage sleeve if she were older. Temporary tattoos are fun and, well, temporary. You can add tattoos instead of stickers or vice-versa. Or both, no one is judging. I found the one below and it’s so adorable because it’s not just a bunch of hearts. There are all kinds of cute monsters, and dinosaurs, and alpacas! And hearts too, of course!

6. Mini Coloring books:

Yes, they have a valentine’s version of it, and some are all pink and red, others are a little more colorful for the people in the back. There are heart decorated ones, and also fun cute little animals! Keep your kids (and their friends) busy with those crayons and the coloring books for a whole 5 minutes while you maybe drink some water.

7. Valentine’s Day mini bubble wands:

This is one thing I think I like as much as my daughter. I used to hang out outside and just make bubbles for little neighbors to run around and pop them. While I don’t recommend buying them full size (for the most fun of all), just get the mini ones so they can play indoors as well and not get everything wet and slippery.

8. Valentine’s Day Tic Tac Toe mini games:

If your little one already enjoys the good old classic tic toc toe, then this is a must. You will probably be recruited as the second player, but it’s better for the environment since you will be saving all that paper. Endless fun, and it’s the prefect bed time game too! (well, at least for us!)

9. Valentine’s Day Erasers:

Another good collectible for your couch. But I get them every time because they are so adorable. To solve the couch problem I bought a small storable box that has its own eraser compartment. However, in this case, each kid will get one so not much to worry about here.

10. Squishy toys:

After buying massive amounts for my daughter, I wanted to experiment with my own students and see if they would like it. I bought valentine’s day squishies and hot glued them to little place cards for my calligraphy workshop. It turns out the adults were just as obsessed as my daughter is, and even asked for the link to buy them. You can add them to a goodie bag, or glue them to a V-day card to a loved one.

11. Mini Heart Shaped slimes:

Ok before you say they get everywhere (and they do), i have found some really good ones that actually don’t stick. They feel more like ….putty? And honestly, they are also super fun, and the containers are tiny, so all you need is soap and water to remove them (easier than washable markers IMO). Just be grateful that kinetic sand is not on this list. LOL

12. Heart shaped Coil Springs (aka Slinkies):

Another great goodie bag option. It brings me back to my middle school days when we had neon colored ones and we would place them by the stairs to see how far they’d go. This is the mini version so you’d need a mini set of stairs to recreate that. BUT, they’re cute no matter what.

13. Mini heart shaped Pop Its:

A favorite in this house. We have ice cream shaped ones, rainbow, puzzle pieces, round, star, heart, octagon shaped, Minnie Mouse shaped, notepad cover pop it, you name it. It’s relaxing to my daughter and she takes one everywhere she goes. And she makes up these games that she always wins, so everyone is happy.

14. Slap Bracelets:

Another great option (and also the least inexpensive of the bunch). I had no idea why kids love these so much, but they do because well, a ruler that becomes a bracelet when you slap your wrist. Hey kids, you do you, I used to love little bracelets that were made by shoelace and were all neon back in the 90’s. So I guess the slap one could be an upgrade.

15. Valentine’s Day mini notepads:

For the ones who love to write anything or even scribble anything if they don’t yet know how to read. There’s a whole bunch of them on Amazon, but I included one of my favorites.

16. Valentine’s Day goodie bags:

Because you need a sac to put all that stuff. Please remember that you don’t have to add every single item above to the bag. I usually keep the amount to 5-6 per kid, otherwise it becomes a Christmas gift. Add your favorite ones (make sure your kid is included if you are taking them to their classroom), and don’t forget to add a tag saying it’s from your family. You def want your child to take the credit.

18. Valentine’s Day mini stamps.

I’m sure you thought I’d forgotten about this little staple. I left the best for last, but truth to be told, I would be disowned by my own daughter if no stamps are included in the bags. They stamp everything in hand, but mostly their hands, important paper around the house and furniture. They do wipe off easily though.

For the “I don’t have the time” crowd and need something done for you.

You’re in luck. Amazon also sells packs with everything you need for goodie bags. Just make sure you buy the correct amount for all the kiddos , but all you need to do is to stuff them in the goodie bags. Problem solved. Below are some of my favorites.

Bonus Item:

Please don’t forget the TAGS! You must add gift tags because you want EVERYONE to know who made those gifts, which kid is and this makes it easier to make sure everyone gets one. I ask for a list of first names at my child’s school and personalize the tag with each of their names (You can add their names on the back of the tag, if there’s no “To”. They LOVE seeing their names on a gift!
